Hair designs are where barbering becomes art. A skilled barber can carve anything into a fade: geometric lines, flames, stars, logos, portraits, and abstract patterns. At Hollywood Cutters, designs are one of our specialties.

Types of Hair Designs

Simple lines: A single razor line, hard part, or geometric shape. Takes 5-10 minutes. Clean and subtle. Great for adding edge to a standard fade without going full artistic.

Medium designs: Stars, waves, tribal patterns, or multiple lines. Takes 10-20 minutes. These show up well in photos and last until the fade grows out.

Complex designs: Portraits, logos, full-head patterns. Takes 30-60 minutes. These require an experienced barber and usually need to be done on freshly cut hair with a tight fade.

How to Prepare

Bring a reference image. Even if you want something custom, your barber needs a starting point. Show it on your phone. The clearer the reference, the better the result.

Come with a fresh fade. Designs look best on freshly cut hair. If your fade is grown out, your barber will need to cut first, then design.

How Long Do Designs Last?

A hair design on a skin fade lasts 7-10 days before it starts growing out. On a mid fade, 10-14 days. After that, the lines blur. Most people who get designs come in every 2 weeks.

At Hollywood Cutters, hair designs are just +$5 added to any haircut. A men's haircut with a design is $40 total. That's one of the most competitive prices in Elizabeth for custom design work.
