How to Maintain Your Fade Between Visits
Your fade looks sharpest the first 3-4 days after a cut. After that, the line starts growing out and the blend softens. Here's how to stretch it to 2-3 weeks before your next visit.
Wash Smart, Not Often
Washing your hair every day strips the natural oils that keep your fade looking clean. Stick to every 2-3 days. When you do wash, use a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates dry out your scalp and make the shorter sections look dusty instead of sharp.
Use a Wave Brush Daily
If you have any texture on top, a medium-firm wave brush does two things: it trains your hair to lay flat and it distributes oil from your scalp down the shaft. Brush for 2-3 minutes after you shower. This alone makes a 2-week-old fade look like a 1-week-old fade.
Moisturize Your Scalp
The skin on the faded sections is exposed. It gets dry, flaky, and ashy fast. Use a lightweight oil or moisturizer on the faded areas every morning. Argan oil or jojoba oil work best. Skip heavy products like coconut oil because they clog pores and cause bumps.
Edge Your Neckline at Home
Your neckline grows out faster than anything. Get a small trimmer and clean up the back of your neck every 4-5 days. Stay conservative. Just remove the strays below your natural hairline. Don't try to reshape your fade at home.
Know When to Come Back
A skin fade holds about 10-14 days. A mid fade can go 2-3 weeks. A high fade stretches to 3 weeks. If you're seeing a visible line where the blend used to be seamless, it's time.
