Your First Visit to a Barbershop: What to Expect

Walking into a barbershop for the first time can feel intimidating, especially if you've only ever gone to chain salons. Here's what actually happens.

Walking In

You'll see the barber chairs, a waiting area, and probably a TV playing. If there's a queue, you wait. At Hollywood Cutters, we have a live queue system so you can check the wait time before you even leave your house.

Checking In

Tell the person at the front what you want. "Haircut" is enough to start. If you have a specific style, show a photo on your phone. Barbers work with reference photos every day. It's not weird. It's helpful.

The Consultation

Your barber will ask what you want. Be specific if you can: "skin fade on the sides, 2 inches on top" is better than "short on the sides, leave some on top." If you don't know the terms, show the photo. Your barber will translate it into technique.

The Cut

This takes 20-45 minutes depending on the service. Your barber will use clippers, scissors, and maybe a straight razor for the edges. You'll wear a cape to keep hair off your clothes. Sit still, especially during the lineup.

The Finish

Your barber will show you the back with a mirror. This is your chance to ask for adjustments. Don't be shy. Then they'll remove the cape, brush you off, and you're done.

Paying and Tipping

At Hollywood Cutters, a men's haircut is $35. We accept cash, cards, Apple Pay, CashApp, and Venmo. Tipping 18-22% is standard and always appreciated.

How Often to Come Back

Every 2-3 weeks for a fade. Every 3-4 weeks for a longer style. Your barber will tell you based on your cut.

We speak English and Spanish. Walk-ins are welcome 7 days a week.
